As Chair of the Budget Committee, Terry and the Board actually cut the tax rate by 0.8% at their October 2010 meeting, the first tax decrease in years. Terry supported the creation of the MPS Accountability Office to cut waste and ensure efficiency. More dollars are being directed to the classrooms even in these tough economic times.
Our schools have seen a dramatic decrease in violence because Terry and the school board placed additional liaison officers and adult mentors in our schools to work with students. Terry led the way in supporting alternative programs to work with trouble students.
Terry authored the resolution to give all MPS graduating students the ACT college entrance exam. More MPS students will attend college and will be prepared for college work because of Terry’s efforts. New programs such as this will ensure that all our children will read and do math to a high standard.
